Wrapping Up October And It’s Great In Dayton!

Imagine an orchestra of 425 string musicians playing an exciting new composition in one Grand Finale. Evening of Strings is a collaboration of nine local high school orchestras for one glorious evening of music. This is at Dayton Masonic Center tonight at 7pm.

Citilites at the Schuster Center, Tuesday, 6 to 9pm; Tickets $75. 

The Stoddard Avenue Pumpkin Glow is Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 to 10pm.

Hundreds of volunteers spend days intricately carving pumpkins are displayed each year on Oct 30-31 on the Grafton Hill

Culture Works Annual Meeting.

2017-2018 was a year of growth, connection, and collaboration. Now, it’s time for transformation. Celebrate the successes you helped make possible in the past year, and get a glimpse of what’s to come in 2018-2019-starting with a first look at their new logo. Thursday, 5 to 6:30pm, Dayton Metro Library – Eichelberger Forum.

The 2018 Access to Justice Awards Celebration

At the Sinclair Community College Ponitz Center. Awards will be presented to four honorees who have worked diligently as advocates for the rights of low-income and disadvantaged people living in the Miami Valley. Thursday, starting at 5:30pm.

The Xtreme Bots & Collegiate Clash Competitions are Friday and Saturday. The event is FREE and open to the public.

The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale.

Books for all ages, CDs, DVDs & More. everything is $1. Special Collection items are individually priced. FREE ADMISSION! All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Dayton Metro Library. Friday, 4 to 8pm; Saturday, 10am to 5pm at the Dayton Convention Center.

Dayton Contra – Good Cooper Band with Beth Mast. Let the rhythms lift your feet and your spirits! Join up on first Fridays to dance, socialize, or just sit and listen to some of the best bands and callers in the region. No experience is necessary, all ages are welcome and you don’t need to bring a partner. The caller teaches all dances before they start. Come join the fun on Friday. Instruction is from 7:30 to 8 and the dance runs from 8 to 11pm. 

The Artery at Front Street.

The ARTery at Front Street is a collection of 16 artists who have come together to renovate and occupy a space for art at the Front Street Building Company. To find us go to The Front Street Building Company and go in door b-c and go to the third floor.

This exhibition at the Dayton Society of Artists

Brings multiple female artists together in a wide representation of media: screen-print, installation, painting, and photography.  Opening reception is during November First Friday from 6 to 9pm.

 

Dutoit Gallery 

Presents Ashley Jude Jonas’s solo exhibition it’s likely in front of you. The exhibition features new sculptural, photographic and two dimensional works that reframe potential and wonder in the context of the everyday. An opening reception takes place Friday from 6-9pm at Dutoit Gallery, which is located in Front Street Warehouse, 1001 E 2nd St on the third floor of building 100 in Dayton.

8th Annual ART OFF Fundraiser.

Mingle with 50+ artists whose artwork will be included in the Bill Franz: Behind the Scenes exhibitand help select a winner of the 8th annual ART OFF Live Painting Competition. Buy local artwork and gift baskets during the silent auction. Enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, live music and art demonstrations while supporting art education programs at K12 Gallery & TEJAS. Saturday, 6 to 9pm.

Aullwood Bird Seed Sale.

This bird seed has been specially developed by Aullwood to attract more unique Midwestern birds with high quality ingredients and no fillers. Also a big selection of quality bird feeders, field guides and natural history books at the Center. Admission is free all day! Saturday, 9am to 4pm.

Beerry Christmas Dayton.

These winter ales are created specifically to bring warmth and cheer to the holiday season. From Belgians and Barleywines to Stouts and Sours, these beers are rich, robust and full of complex flavors. Bring a pair of mittens and or gloves for their mitten tree and receive one free ticket for the Chinese Raffle! Proceeds benefit Brothers Helping Brothers, who provide fire equipment for rural fire departments  Lobby of Kettering Tower, Saturday, 4 to 7pm.

The Gala.

Take in the sights and sounds of Paris at the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Center for the Performing Arts! Enjoy a fabulous evening benefiting the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance’s education programs.Saturday, 6pm to midnight.

The Little Exchange Annual Holiday Open House!

It is adorned with custom designed trees, garlands and wreaths, unique ornaments and decorations, holiday serveware, and an assortment of women’s accessories for the season. There are gifts for just about everyone. Sunday, 11am to 5pm. 


The Lincoln Society of Dayton

At the administration building of Ohio Hospice, (Paragon and Commerce Park). Come and hear retired Kettering dentist, Charles Dickerson, share his original research about Charles Anderson: From Brown Street to Gettysburg. All are welcome to attend and enjoy light refreshments to conclude the afternoon. Sunday at 2pm.

Beethoven Symphony No. 7, Dvorak Cello Concerto.
The cello was finally propelled to the level of the piano and violin as a prominent solo instrument with Dvorak’s concerto in B minor. The concerto’s focus on virtuosity also yields to tender and lyrical passages and recalls Dvorak’s Bohemian roots through the use of rhythmic folk melodies. Kettering Seventh Day Adventist Church, Sunday, 3pm.
