2018 Mayor’s Awards Announced

October 10, 2018 By Dayton Most Metro

Mayor Nan Whaley today announced the winners of the 2018 Mayor’s Awards. The awards celebrate the people and organizations that make Dayton thrive. Nominations were accepted from the public across five categories, and a committee of volunteers selected the winners.
“Dayton is strong because of the people and organizations that are dedicated to it,” said Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley. “I’m thrilled to celebrate all of this year’s Mayor’s Awards winners and their commitment to our city.”

The 2018 winners are:

Workforce Pipeline Award:

This award celebrates an organization or person promoting skill or trade development in students. The winner is the Dayton Region Manufacturers Association, whose work connecting young people with rewarding careers in manufacturing is helping ensure a strong pipeline of workers for years to come.
Education Champion Award:
This award recognizes an organization or person working to provide a brighter future for our children. The 2018 winner is Dayton Early College Academy, a K- 12 school whose commitment to Dayton students from disadvantaged backgrounds is helping many of them succeed in attending and graduating from college.

Giving Back to Neighborhoods Award:

This award recognizes an individual or community group that has supported and inspired their neighborhood. Lisa Tingleis this year’s winner. Her work as Executive Director of Fundamental Health and Community Development Services and as president of the Roosevelt Neighborhood Collaborative has helped beautify and build the capacity of her neighborhood.

Community Service Award:

This award celebrates an individual or organization that supports and promotes service to the community. Herbert Burton of the Pineview neighborhood is this year’s winner, for his dedication to his neighborhood by serving on boards, organizing clean ups, and much more.

Daytonian of the Year:
This award recognizes an individual making the greatest contribution to Dayton in the previous year. The 2018 Daytonian of the Year is Amy Radachi. As Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Dayton, Amy has made a lasting impact on Dayton by helping low-income homeowners keep their homes safe and maintained. Amy shows extraordinary commitment to Dayton, both professionally and personally.

Each honoree was presented with a glass award created by Dayton artist Kevin Tunstall. The winners are also given the opportunity to have a $1,000 donation made to the non-profit of their choice.

More information on the Mayor’s Awards, including a video featuring the winners, is available at daytonohio.gov/mayorsaward.
