Old Scratch Pizza

Old Scratch Pizza’s 2nd Location Now Open

October 22, 2019 By Lisa Grigsby

After much anticipation the Washington Township Old Scratch Pizza is now open!    Owner Eric Soller proudly shares that with assistance from architecht Matt Sauer and Real Art, he was able to create a casual, open feeling communal hall that will seat over 200 guests.  While it looks much bigger than the downtown location, he says if you include the patio and party room downtown, that they both seat about the same number of guests. The exact same menu will be served at both locations.

One of the major differences is that the new pizza hall features 3 wood-burning ovens, (one more than downtown) and they’ve added a back entrance and designated parking for To-Go orders.  Look for their on-line ordering to be operational in just a few weeks!

Soller was able to staff the restaurant by bringing some staff from the downtown location, including General Manager Erin Rogers, who helped hire about sixty employees for the new spot.

The 12,000 square foot building, which used to be Centerville Home Fireplace & Patio also has room for 2 more businesses.  One of those will be a juice bar, Power Plant, run by the folks that ran the Shakery food truck.  No word yet on what the 3rd spot will be.

OSP is also bringing their popular Cones For A Cause program to the new location and you’ll find the free cones at the bar at this suburban spot.  Guests are asked to make a donation for the ice cream cones, and each month a different local
non-profit is the beneficiary of those funds.

Since it’s inception this Old Scratch program has generated over $70,000 for community projects and Old Scratch Pizza is even being honored by the Association of Fundraising Professional  at the Dayton National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on November 15th.

Old Scratch Pizza Serves Up Cones For a Cause

March 1, 2017 By Lisa Grigsby

The Patterson Blvd. Pizza place that opened this past fall is not only serving up some of the best thin crust pizza in town, they’ve also created a program that is giving back to our area nonprofits.

Old Scratch Pizza make soft serve ice cream to serve to their guests.  They don’t charge for the cones, instead they ask for a small donation.  Each month Old Scratch Pizza collects and donate all monies to a chosen charity organization.

They kicked off the program in November of 2016 with  Secret Smiles, an organization that provides beds and bedding for children in the Miami Valley, then in December partnered with Clothes That Work, who provide workplace appropriate clothing, confidence building education and coaching services to job seekers. In January OSP chose Equitas Health, one of the nation’s largest HIV/lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) healthcare organizations.  Last month the featured charity was Girls On the Run, who inspires girls to take charge of their lives and define the future on their terms.

For March they’ve chosen another great organization as this month’s “Cones for a Cause” recipient. Owners Eric and Stephanie Soller shared they  “are really excited to be partnering with House of Bread, who deliver hot, nutritious meals to anyone in need 365 days a year. This kind of resource is so needed in our community. So come on down, have a cone, and make a difference.”

Bonus opportunity: Put Tuesday March 21st on your calendar for a “Restaurant Takeover” to support House of Bread. Volunteers from the group will be there pouring beers, and serving up ice cream cones, and 10% of the proceeds between 6-9 go to the organization!

If you know of an organization that would be interested in being a “Cones for a Cause” charity, please fill out the online form found at the bottom of their webpage.

Visit Old Scratch Pizza at 812 S. Patterson Road for lunch or dinner.  Pizzas are artfully prepared to order and cooked in a wood-burning oven until perfectly flame-kissed. Pair your pie with a specialty house cocktail or regional craft beer in our open-air, casual, and communal hall.  Also on the menu, some great salads, their Whole Roasted Cauliflower, sandwiches and yes, they have gluten free pizza crust available.  They are open Tuesday- Thursday from 11am – 10pm, Friday & Saturday’s they stay open an hour later until 11pm and Sunday from 11am – 9pm.

The Wait is Over- Old Scratch Pizza Opens Tuesday!

October 17, 2016 By Lisa Grigsby

We’ve all been watching 14362614_1049977115071378_8172756370492783779_othe transformation of what was once an old ugly paint store on Patterson across from Grismer Tire become transformed into Old Scratch Pizza.

Stephanie Soller shared that her husband Eric drove by the building every day for years from his job at Hobart on his way home to their home in Oakwood and about a year ago they decided that it would be the home of their beer and pizza joint.  The couple, who meet in culinary school had always dreamed of opening a restaurant together.

The 6000 sq foot restaurant has a casual feel, where you’ll order at the counter, then head into the dining room, which seats about 150 at communal tables or at  one of the 20 seats at the bar.   There’s even a private room that will seat about 30.   Weather permitting the patio adds another 40 seats.14372390_1043276649074758_7402528376148367340_o

The pizza they’ll be serving is Neopolitan-style pizza – a very thin crispy crust, cooked quickly in two wood-fired pizza ovens that at 800-1000 degrees will cook a pizza in just a couple of minutes. Soller says getting used to the ovens has been a big learning experience for him and the staff. A Chicago pizza expert Gianni Gallucci of Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani (aka the Pizza Police) was brought in to assist in training them all on the style of pizza they will be producing.

Stephanie Soller

MostMetro.com was lucky enough to get an invite to one of the practice dining sessions, where we were greeted with great hospitality by Stephanie, who seemed very cool and collected, a great sign for management of the new eatery.  She gave us a quick overview of the menu and it was hard to decide where to begin.  Vegetarian {V}, Vegan{VG} and Gluten Free{GF} items were clearly marked, a welcome detail for many. The pizza’s are about 11 inches around- a big meal for one or perfect to share. We tried the meatballs- and they were quite tasty- can’t wait to go back for a meatball sandwich.

The Pizza Menu is divided into REDS:

fullsizerenderThere’s also a build your own option, salads, sharable appetizers like the whole roasted cauliflower, meatballs, cold cuts and buratta & proscuitto.  Eric also shared that they’ll add a brunch pizza down the road.
Shawn the bartender let us know that of the 20 tap handles, 4 will be dedicated to wine and the rest will be a rotating selection of craft beers.  They also had a whole menu of house cocktails we didn’t get around to trying this trip, guess we’ll have to go back again. Evan and Le’Chele of Rue Dumaine were brought in to consult on the bar, and the cocktails, making sure the offerings are top notch.
Old Scratch Pizza officially opens Tuesday at 812 S Patterson Blvd and will be open Tuesday – Thursday 11am – 10pm, staying open an hour later on Friday and Saturday and serving on Sunday from 11am – 9pm.
