Dayton Diners Show Support for “Flavors Eatery”

December 28, 2018 By The Food Adventures Crew Leave a Comment

The Pacific Smoothie

Here is a good story for your Holiday.

What a difference a few weeks makes.  After having a slump in winter sales, the Centerville Flavors Eatery put out a lifeline.  On their Facebook page they said they were struggling and asked for regulars and new patrons to visit them for a boost.  The result was overwhelming.  People from all over the Miami Valley have been grabbing a bite, or placing to go orders.  So many in fact, that the eatery had a record-breaking week recently.

Nearly 6 years ago, ownership of this location was sold.  Business continued to hum with meal plans to go.  It was early in December that the drop-off in patronage put the restaurant in jeopardy.  While the family has publicly thanked local foodies for their Christmas Miracle,” they also asked for continued support in 2019, so they aren’t out of the woods yet.

The Food Adventure Crew took the opportunity to visit the eatery a couple of times in December and wow is there a buzz in town.  Both times we stopped in customers continued to stop in, some as they were closing and had to take to go orders.

Have you been to Flavors Eatery? Wanting to try for the first time or revisit the place? Here is some information you will find useful.

HERE IS THE SKINNY ON FLAVORS EATERY:

The Outside of Flavors Eatery in Centerville

—HOURS. – A unique schedule for he dining room is as follows:
MON: – 11am -8pm
TUES – THURS: 11am -3pm
FRI: 11am – 8pm
SAT: 11am- 3pm

—Located in Centerville in a small strip mall at 865 E. Franklin St.

Let us help you out, from years and dozens of trips to this eatery, we know the menu fairly well.  Here are there “must eats.”

“MUST EATS” FOR FLAVORS EATERY:

Don’t forget Flavors has another location in Lebanon.  That location is run by the original owners of Flavors, who opened the Centerville store years ago.  The food offerings are very similar and feature that California style eatery menu we have grown to love.  And of course they invented that incredible garlic sauce.

Chicken Artichoke Spinach Wrap a Rito

—THE PACIFIC SMOOTHIE:
Banana, strawberries, mixed fruit and mixed berry concoction with kiwi-strawberry juice. This shake will wake you up and give you an energy boost from the natural ingredients. Refreshing, and delicious, this one is worth a try.

— CHICKEN SPINACH ARTICHOKE WRAP-A-RITO:
This was Jackie’s favorite. It is a large burrito, stuffed with artichokes, chicken, spinach, apple slaw, mozzarella cheese, feta cheese and house garlic sauce on top. Jackie suggests ordering it with extra house garlic sauce. She could drink that stuff !

— PORTABELLA CHICKEN QUESADILLA:
This was the Big Ragu’s favorite of the menu. A Warm quesadilla with lots of flavor with chicken and portabella mushrooms, tomatoes, apple slaw, mozzarella cheese and topped with the incredible house garlic sauce. This was a perfect balance of healthy and filling.

— TERIYAKI CHICKEN FLAKY BAKE:
A delicious take on chicken. The teriyaki sauce was subtle and the chicken was cooked perfectly. All of it on a flaky tortilla and served with chips and salsa. Drizzled with Garlic sauce, it is a crisp flaking mountain of happiness.

Portabella Chicken Quesadilla

—CAJUN CHICKEN WRAP-A-RITO:
Take a chicken burrito and add green and red bell peppers. The result is the beginning of greatness. Brown rice, apple slaw, yellow onions and beans are also filled inside with garlic sauce on top. The multiple levels of flavors and spices make a cajun flavored treat. Subtle, and not overpowering, the burrito maintains that healthy, natural taste.

—AVOCADO CHOCOLATE COOKIES:
The most interesting menu item in the eatery. It is a dark, dark cookie made with avocados. Go guilt free and eat one of these bad boys. It is an absolute treat.

—BOTTLES OF HOUSE GARLIC SAUCE TO GO:
Turn your kitchen into a mini-flavors. Not only is the sauce amazing, it is Gluten Free, Dairy Free, no MSG, with No High Fructose Corn Syrup. Try it on Salads, Chips, Pretzels, Meats, Pizzas and veggies!!! The sauce is also sold at Kroger and Dorothy Lane Market Centerville in the salad dressing aisle.

Teriyaki Chicken Flaky Bake

HONORABLE MENTION:

— THE HUMMUS PLATE:
This appetizer is fresh and a display of dipping vegetables that is just perfect. The hummus is freshly ground and delicious. This is a very healthy appetizer option, and none of the flavor is sacrificed.

If you are wondering about the house apple slaw, it contains a mixture of carrots, cabbage, radicchio, cucumber, apples, celery and green beans. It is a garnish found with most of their meals.

That sums it up it for our Food Adventure recap and feel good story of the season. Flavors Eatery in Centerville still asks for your continued support in 2019, but the Dayton faithful have been their guardian angel and saving grace this Christmas.

If you haven’t been there this winter, now you know what to order, so you have a head start on the rest …. see you at the tables, covered in garlic sauce!

Lucky’s Taproom & Eatery – Poised for a Comeback

March 10, 2016 By Dayton Most Metro Leave a Comment

Poised to Reopen Soon

Lucky’s Taproom is on track to make a big return, and they are leaving nothing to “luck” or “chance.”  Andrew Trick, owner and operator has been working long hours, every day, since closing his restaurant due to a health scare.  The staff and Drew have scrubbed and sanitized the facility from top to bottom.  They have repainted, re-caulked and re-sealed every nook and cranny.  Cooking equipment has been sent out to be serviced, and no pan has been unturned.

This is the comeback that will put Lucky’s back on track after a shut down just before they were gearing up for a big 5th year anniversary celebration.  Andrew Trick and Lucky’s have prided themselves over the years on using local farms and companies for everything from meats to bread.   There motto and business plan has always been to support local.

Besides scouring the entire restaurant, Lucky’s Taproom and Eatery has again gone local by hiring a Dayton area company, Ram Environmental to aggressively address the health of its envlogodiners on a molecular level.  Lucky’s is erring on the side of caution by investing in a state of the art system that will keep air and surfaces at Lucky’s, virtually bacteria, mold and virus free.  This unique “seek and destroy” technology is completely “Green” and is already being put to use in Lucky’s.  For the past week 2 large, “Ram Super Scrubber” machines have been running 24/7 in the restaurant completely “disinfecting” all surfaces and air impurities.  There are no harmful chemicals, liquids, or ozone involved, and the system is completely safe to be around.  Phase 2 will be the installation of a permanent maintenance system that will be placed in the ice machines, walk in coolers, kitchen ductwork and dining room ductwork.  The result aims to provide a virtually bacteria free environment.

Vegetarian Goat Burger

Ram Environmental has installed similar systems into Cassano’s Dough Plant and all three Dorothy Lane Market Stores to ensure a bacteria free environment.  Local area school cafeterias have also benefited from Ram’s Environmental systems.

Still waiting for Health Department clearance, Lucky’s Taproom hopes to open as soon as Friday night, March 11th, for a limited menu dinner service.

Lucky’s Owner Andrew Trick Invests in the Future

This is great news to area foodies, who have been missing the favorite eatery.  Lucky’s, located in the Oregon District at 520 East Fifth Street is known for their burgers,  beer selection, fish battered in your choice of beer and a terrific Sunday Brunch.

Food Adventures Takes Aim at Archer’s + $20 Gift Certificate !!

August 1, 2013 By The Food Adventures Crew 25 Comments

You have driven by and seen the packed parking lot, so you know something is up.  Archer’s Tavern has just surpassed its 3rd year in business and is still cookin’ right along in more ways than one.  Owner’s Dan Apolito, Scott Dorsten and Mike Fullenkamp have a great formula for success.  Good food, good drink, and affordable prices.  The owners also immerse themselves in the community, donating to various churches, charities and youth organizations.  The belief is “If you do good things for people, it will come back to you.”  The menu, which is printed on newspaper, keeps customers coming back for sure.

Archer’sm, located at 9496 Dayton Lebanon Pike, is a family pub-style restaurant named after John Archer Jr.  who owned Centerville’s first tavern.  This nod to history is true to form with ownership’s belief in local involvement.

From Burgers and Pizzas, to Salads and Craft Beers, there is something for everyone at Archer’s Tavern.  Don’t forget the special events they showcase from time to time.

HERE’S THE SKINNY:

— Family Friendly Atmosphere with a pub feel.  You could bring the kids here after a soccer game, or sit at the bar with some friends.

— Great Craft Beer selection on tap and in bottles.  Archer’s partners with regional breweries for some rare, delicious selections.  Their rotating selection is sure to please thirsty patrons.

The Brandon Burger features Zink’s Local Beef , a fried egg, and bacon on top.

— Affordable meals with most selections in  the $7-$10 range.  They even have a burger for under $4.

— Don’t miss their special events throughout the year.  Whether it is a crawfish boil to celebrate their anniversary or a beer/menu tasting featuring Goose Island beers, these events are worth checking out.  Stay tuned to their website and Facebook Page to keep up with the latest happenings.   Here is EXCLUSIVE SCOOP on the next upcoming event !

****EXCLUSIVE SCOOP !  YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST ! ***

Archer’s will feature a CHILI COOKOFF on Saturday, September 14th from 2pm-4pm.  Do you have a winning recipe?  Limited to 20 entrants, the winning person’s chili will be featured on the Archer’s menu for an entire year.  There is also a cash prize of $200.  To enter the contest, stop into Archers Tavern, but do it quickly as space is limited to the first 20 entrants.  Food Adventures will be celebrity judges and you can be a judge too!  Just show up the day of the event and pay $10 to sample the 20 chili entries and cast your vote.   Join us for this FOOD ADVENTURE !  The money collected will go to the Centerville High School Culinary Student fund or the Archer’s Scholarship Fund.  Again,  Archer’s is giving back to the community.  We love and respect that.

Archer’s Ale – a damn good craft beer

With so much going on in this place, we offer up our suggestions on some of the best.  As with all of our Food Adventures, we have been here numerous times and tried almost everything on the menu.

If you have not yet been to Archer’s, let Big Ragu, Chef House and Hungry Jax point you in the right direction.

MUST EATS:

— THE BRANDON BURGER:  This burger is a favorite.  It features a fried egg and bacon all on top of a fresh Zink’s Meat Market Burger.  It is quite simply one of the best burgers in town.

— ARCHER’S ALE:  An ESB (Extra Special Bitter), that is an original craft beer.  A quality brew to be appreciated by the beer connoisseur in you.  Smooth and easy, this is an enjoyable drink for those ESB lovers.

— CITRUS CHICKEN SALAD – Grilled chicken on a bed of fresh greens, mixed with a balsamic dressing.   Other toppings include mandarin oranges, cranberries, bleu cheese crumbles and almonds.  A healthy and tasty alternative!

—  THE MARGHERITA PIZZA:  Fresh Mozzarella and a smooth tomato sauce is the key to this pizza.  Fresh basil leaves and Roma tomatoes top off this vegetarian pie nicely.

— THE PHILLY CHEESESTEAK: A heaping sandwich filled with meat, peppers and melted provolone cheese.  You can also request cheese whiz on this monster.  We say, go for it.  This is how they do it in Philadelphia.  Your choice of ribeye steak or chicken for the meat.

— THE STICKY BURGER:  A burger with peanut butter on it? YES!  The result is a unique taste, reminiscent of a Thai Peanut Sauce.   This burger is the Big Ragu’s Favorite.  It also comes with bacon and smoked pepper jack cheese.  This is a curiously good burger that you won’t soon forget.

— CRAZY UNCLE JESTER’S HOT SAUCE:  Archer’s is partnered with a local hot sauce maker that really lights things up.  Make sure and ask your waitress to bring out some different flavored bottles of Crazy Uncle Jester’s Hot Sauce.   Add it to some wings, chili or whatever you want to pack a wallop of flavor.  Good stuff here, some of it isn’t for the squeamish.

Margherita Pizza – Savor that Fresh Mozzarella

Finally, this article would be incomplete if we didn’t talk about the servers.  Our many experiences have shown us that this friendly staff cares about the customers and shows commitment in offering good service.  The management instills this belief from the top down.  If you love decent prices for good food, then give Archer’s Tavern a shot.  This place is about relaxing in a fun eatery.  Our advice is, scan the beer selection, order a burger or one of our  ‘must eats’  and then… enjoy.   In  this Food Adventure, you can be sure that Archer’s will hit the bullseye !

Browse through our photo album of literally dozens of menu items and features from past special events.  Are you a Foodie?  Then “like” Food Adventures on Facebook HERE !
