SCOTUS Day: What Does the Title VII Decision Mean for Ohio?
June 15, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Today, in a historic decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia, the Supreme Court of the United States affirmed that Title VII prohibits employers from discriminating against LGBTQ people at work.
The ruling will directly improve the lives of 13 million LGBTQ people living in the U.S.––including 500,000 in Ohio. Many states’ existing nondiscrimination laws include and protect their LGBTQ residents. Ohio’s laws do not, though bills pending in the Ohio House of Representatives (HB369) and the Ohio Senate (SB11), called The Ohio Fairness Act, could change that.
Join us this evening as we discuss what this ruling will mean for LGBTQ Ohioans, the work we still need to accomplish at the state level, and possible next steps.
Today’s decision is an important step forward. And it is a powerful reminder of how much work is left to do and how critical that work remains.
