Retraced- A storytelling art project at Tonic True Nature
March 12, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Join us Thursday, March 12th at Tonic for “RETRACED – a community-based story-telling art project” by Emily Artz, a Dayton-based artist, mental health advocate and current Ohio University medical student. ??
With retraced, Emily tells actual human experience stories and how individuals overcome trauma, mental health and other everyday life challenges, with ART. Learn more about how this project connects and relates us to one another through life’s experiences.
“Everyone’s got struggles. but the good news is, someone has probably already gone through what you are going through. people don’t think things are possible to overcome because they don’t know others who have, and people who have gone through it might not want to publicly share their struggles for any number of personal reasons.
i want to share peoples’ stories of overcoming struggles. i’m being intentionally vague. it doesn’t have to be catastrophic, or it can be. true stories are privately and confidentially shared with me. in return, i draw something inspired by the story, and the author keeps the original drawing. displays are of prints, which can be recreated and sold to those who might relate or find strength/hope from the story. stories are posted without names or identifying features to ensure anonymity. and, since i will know who the people are, if people are moved by the stories, i can forward any appreciative comments to the storyteller.
with love, Emily Artz”
