Mindfulness/Meditation for Resilience
Wednesday June 10 – July 29 7:00 – 7:45 PM
The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the stress levels the average individual is experiences from everyday live and how it was increased by the impact of the pandemic. Also exposed are the inadequacies in individual and communal resilience, as well as effective tools to mitigate stress and trauma in the face of challenge.
The benefits of mindfulness are both well-established and wide-ranging. Studies on subjects ranging from college students to Marines have found the practice reduces stress and leads to higher levels of well-being and resilience. Yet in our 24/7/365 world of constant information and distraction many have not mastered the ability to focus and stay present stress free.
Mindfulness and Meditation are valuable tools to offset stress, enhance well-being, increase effectiveness and performance, as well as life satisfaction.
Researchers have found that “…individuals with higher mindfulness have greater resilience, thereby increasing their life satisfaction.”
Mindful people … can better cope with difficult thoughts and emotions without becoming overwhelmed or shutting down (emotionally)
A recent study demonstrated that:
• Mindfulness predicted life satisfaction and affect as indices of subjective well-being.
• Mindfulness predicted resilience.
• Resilience mediated the mindfulness–life satisfaction relationship.
• Resilience mediated the mindfulness–positive affect relationship.
• Resilience mediated the mindfulness–negative affect relationship
