MAGNIFICENT HUBBA HUBBA is a comedy about how true passion never grows old, and sometimes the best partnerships are the most unlikely ones. A teenage boy tracks down his downtrodden, fiery, and foulmouthed idol – “The Magnificent Hubba Hubba” – an old-time woman wrestler now over 70 and working as a greeter at a hotel casino. He aims to set up the rematch of the century between her and her arch rival of years gone by. But what he really wants is to win the love of her estranged granddaughter, a high school wrestling star who hates his guts.

LUCILLE (F, 70s) – senior wrestler, foul mouthed, disgruntled, fiery w/orange hair; at times, hopeful and vulnerable
ROY (M, a mature 16) – passionate fan, excited, nervous, adorkable; he carries the show
ALICE (F, 70s) – senior wrestler, “Georgia Peach”, sweet and fiery
LULU (F, 16) – Lucille’s granddaughter, high school wrestler with an attitude
ZANE (M, 70s) – left Lucille for Alice, sleazy salesman type
ANNOUNCER (M) – in the final fight
WANDA (F, 30s-40s) – Lucille’s boss, no nonsense
NADYA (F, about 55) – Siberian wrestler
TEDDY (F, 20s-30s) – very drunk high roller
NURSE (F, 20s-30s) – Alice’s nurse
HOSTESS (F, 20s-30s) – very cheery
YOUNG LUCILLE (F, 20s-50s) – in brief flashback fight (no lines)
REFEREE (F, 20s-50s) – in the final fight (no lines)
YOUNG ALICE (F, 20s-30s) – in brief flashback fight (no lines)

In this time of uncertainty, the director is committed to presenting theatre in a safe and responsible way. She plans on recording the majority (if not all) of the play on Zoom. Actors must have a good internet connection and be able to rehearse and record on a computer/laptop and use green screen backgrounds and filters (which will be provided). Due to technical issues, actors will not be able to use phones, tablets, or Chromebooks (unless the Chromebook is compatible with Zoom). The only scene(s) which might be filmed on stage in person would be the fight(s). This will depend on COVID case numbers in the area, actors’ vaccine status, cast member comfort, etc. From the director: “If I film any of the fight scenes in person, I will only film the actors involved in the fight itself on the stage and will choose angles that will allow the other actor in the fight to be masked and/or shielded when they are not the primary focus.” Although the play is typically performed with seven actors, the director is considering dividing the roles in the multiple character tracks.
Please note: This play contains adult language.
