In a video message posted online today Molly Blackshear made the announcement that Cafe 1610 will be closing down at the end of May. Well at least for now.
The all vegan eatery owned by Molly and her mom Cathy will be open Fri-Sun all month long, offering mainly brunch options and then they will wrap up their business at their current 521 Wayne Ave location.
Chatting with Molly today, she shared that “they are so grateful that Dayton accepted their vegan offerings” and she knows they’ve found their tribe. She says they’ve proved “there is an audience for an all vegan eatery in Dayton.” Now they need to find their permanent home and she expects that to stay in the downtown area. In August of 2020 they opened at Glass Blue Oven as a temporary home, and they started with a four month lease and kept extending it a month at time.
Cathy Mong, Molly’s partner told us, “We’ve had a really good experience in the building and want to thank Chip for the opportunity! It’s now time to find our own space.” The partnership which started as three is now down to two and Molly shares that they’re ready to relocate, rebrand and basically start over. So they’ll spend the summer finding the right spot, and hope to reopen by the end of August or early September.
In the meantime you’ve got every Fri – Sun in to May stop on by and enjoy some of their amazing donuts, muffins, breakfast tacos and other brunch items. Molly shared they’ll do some of their other menu favorite meals, while supplies last. Please check their facebook page for hours, which she is thinking will be 11am – 5pm for the rest of the month.
