Walking into the room we pass through a chainmail curtain into a space steady pumping with a rhythm like blood flow. The lights are blooming bursts of colors, flashes that feel like explosions of excitement. These effects catch pace, divert from, and charge against. This could have a somewhat dizzying effect if it weren’t for the fact you’re instantly swallowed up, hypnotized, lost in the music. A smooth female voice goes from whisper to pure melody. She sings against a backdrop of pounding beats and haunting synth work. The effect is alluring, disarming and entrancing. This music is often too … [Read more...] about Curse of Cassandra

Salsa Saturdays with DJ Danny D isn't a spectator sport. It requires full participatory ass-shakin' and hip-swayin'. Every weekend, DJ Danny D (Danny Diaz) brings a little Miami to the Miami Valley with his Latin-laden dance mixes that keep mamis' and papis' hearts racing and pulses pounding. Last Saturday's edition featured a Valentine's Day Bachata dance contest that transformed downtown Dayton's Therapy Cafe into a Cuban-style dance hall. Bodies slick with sweat dipped, rolled and spun across the floor. There were no wallflowers in this urban oasis. Even the lights danced - … [Read more...] about Salsa Saturdays At Therapy Cafe [PHOTOS]
For this week's video, we're going to travel back in time to last Monday. Okay, so the video wasn't shot last Monday, but I had the idea for this week's feature while re-discovering yet another one of the great things to do in Dayton. Have I totally confused you yet? Here's the story: Last Monday evening I found myself at Therapy Cafe on Third Street. When I arrived I vaguely remembered that Ben Rivet who performs under the name BJSR does a gig on Monday nights. What I didn't know was what a great start to the week it would be. It's a free show every Monday night that gets started … [Read more...] about Music Video Monday: August 16th edition

But that was then. If performing awkward, antiquated dance moves in your living room wearing day-glow leg warmers isn't cutting it any more, then it might be time to switch your style up. The "new" way, ladies and gentlemen, to sculpt a hot bod is zumba. And zumba ain't no joke. To characterize zumba - a fitness regimen that … [Read more...] about This Zumba Queen Will Get You Lean: This ain’t sweatin’ to the oldies!
