SURJ Greater Dayton invites you to join us for a screening of When They See Us, co-written, and directed by Ava DuVernay. The series is based on events of the 1989 Central Park jogger case and explores the lives of the families of and the five male suspects who were wrongfully accused and prosecuted in 1990 on charges related to the rape and assault of a woman in Central Park, New York City, the year before.
This is a four part series, which we will watch one part at a time Wednesdays in July with guest speakers to relate these tragic stories to the legacy of racist policing continuing today, twenty years later, and what we can do to change it.
Guest Speakers include:
Black Lives Matter Dayton’s Carlos Buford
Ohio Families Unite Against Police Brutality’s Sabrina Jordan
Black Lives Matter’s Yolanda Simpson
Justice for John Crawford III’s Bomani Moyenda
