Trashcan Sinatras live at Encore Studios
June 8, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm$25
College-rock aficionados of a certain age (and excellent taste) know the Trashcan Sinatras as a Scottish five-piece majoring in elegant guitar pop whose 1990 debut, “Cake,” lit up Billboard’s Modern Rock chart and built a fiercely dedicated army of fans.
The band brings its “One Night, Two Albums” tour to Dayton for an Acoustic Studio Party on June 8 at Encore Studios, 16 Bates St., just east of downtown. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
Frank Reader, John Douglas and Paul Livingston will perform “Cake” and its 1993 follow-up, “I’ve Seen Everything” in their entirety, filling out sets with other tracks from their catalog, which includes albums “A Happy Pocket,” “Weightlifting,” “In the Music” and “Wild Pendulum.”
Tickets are $25, available at eventbrite.com (tinyurl.com/tcsdayton), with a limited number of VIP upgrades ($95) available. VIP upgrades (which do not include a concert ticket) include up-close and personal time with the band and exclusive merchandise.
This is the biggest tour the band has ever done, with 30 dates between mid-May and the end of June. The tour’s three-piece lineup mirrors last year’s “All Night” acoustic tour, on which the trio played nearly every song form their 30-year catalog, to rave reviews. Trashcans’ latest release is 2016’s “Wild Pendulum,” called the band’s “most elegant and textured work yet” by The Quietus.
After the 2004 South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, Billboard magazine described the Trashcans experience as “dreamy melodies for a drizzly night.” No matter the weather in unpredictable Dayton, this intimate June evening is sure to be a highlight of the summer.
