SHE-Roes in STEM

July 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The SHE-Roe Storytelling series offers the opportunity for local women to share their stories of how there dreams carved the way to their success. Join Us!

This special evening will showcase two SHE-Roes in the STEM field that used their science backgrounds to pursue their dreams.

Anissa C. Lumpkin & Alexandra (AKA Kate) Rivers are our SHE-Roes for July!

Anissa Lumpkin has 18 years of experience working with the United States Air Force as an Active Duty Officer, Reservist and Civilian. She currently manages the Air Force Research Laboratory Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (AFRL SBIR/STTR) a $140 million dollar program for the Air Force.

Anissa’s aim has always been to work in research and education where she can help improve our community and become self-sustained. In 2018, in pursuit of that goal she founded the BOSH Co Workshop. She opened a small workshop with her signature bath and body product recipes discovered from research in her home “kitchen” lab. From the kitchen to a small workshop BOSH Co was born. Anissa views BOSH Co as a community workshop; it is more than just four walls that sell’s bath and body products. It is a classroom and truly a place where creatives – of all ages – can learn how to make their own sustainable plant-based products.

Kate Rivers is a proud Industrial Engineer turned baker/entrepreneur and owner of Twist Cupcakery! Kate is a 2004 graduate of Chaminade Julianne High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Dayton where she earned her undergraduate degree in engineering. After graduating Kate began work as a Quality Engineer at Norwood Medical and earned her Six Sigma Green and Black Belts through the American Society for Quality or ASQ.

After working full-time for several years Kate started baking from home treats for her friends who referred others and before she knew it she had a licensed home bakery business! After 3 years of home baking she decided to pursue her dream of opening a brick and mortar location and applied for and was accepted into the Pop Up Shop program in 2015. Twist Cupcakery will celebrate 4 years this June and has been awarded ‘Best Cupcake Shop in Ohio’ by Delish.com as well as landing several awards in the ‘Best of Dayton’ contest.

Kate is extremely passionate about increasing the number of young ladies interested in entering STEM fields as well as entrepreneurship and encourages being multi-passionate!
