Film Connections: Short Film Strategies

June 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free – $5

Sundance award-winning writer/director Nichol Simmons began her career working on feature films in her home state of Ohio while still a film student at Wright State in Dayton. With production office experience under her belt, she relocated to Los Angeles and worked in a variety of freelance positions before jumping into academia. Following a stint at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, she joined the American Film Institute where, as Director of National Workshops, she ran the prestigious Directing Workshop for Women. After a brief return to USC as a Professional Development Specialist, she returned to freelancing while developing her own work.

Nichol’s directing work includes several short films and web series episodes, serving as second unit director on movies which aired nationally on Lifetime and PAX, and co-directing several promotional spots featuring Tom Hanks for Wright State University. A two-time Nicholl semi-finalist for her scripts DONE ALREADY GONE and BABY FAT, she recently completed her MFA in Screenwriting at Cal State Northridge. She currently splits her time between Los Angeles and Dayton.

FILM CONNECTIONS is the monthly social gathering for filmmakers and film lovers. Film Connections features a guest speaker who offers tips and hints to strengthen skills, critical perspectives on film genres, screenings of films connected to local filmmakers or networking among aspiring and professional filmmakers. It is FREE for Film Dayton members and only $5 for non-members.

And yes, in case you’re wondering- the bar is open!
