The Fourth of July is the number one day each year that animals are lost from homes. With so much commotion and loud noises associated with the Fourth of July, pets may run away or become lost in an attempt to hide.
Make sure your pets stay safe and are returned to you if they become lost. Have an identification collar on your pets that clearly has a number to call if they are found. In addition, it is important to microchip your pets.
Microchipping your pet takes just minutes to do. It is just a little chip (the size of a grain of rice) that goes under your pet’s skin. If your pet arrives to a shelter or veterinarian office, the chip can be scanned and your contact information will pop up allowing them to notify you that they found your pet.
Thanks to a generous donor, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton wants to help keep pets safe with Fourth of July by offering 100 free microchips to the community.
Starting on Tuesday, June 25th, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton is offering 100 free microchips for people who come to our main shelter location, 1661 Nicholas Road in Dayton. These microchips are on a first-come, first-serve basis and no vouchers will be given once we run out. No appointments are needed. You can simply bring your owned animals into our shelter and have the procedure done right on the spot.
We will have ONLY 100 Microchips during the event and will continue to do them throughout the week until they are all gone. If you missed out on the chance to have your pet microchipped for free, we still offer them throughout the year for just $20.
