A Statue to Honor Lincoln’s Promise

You are invited to the “Lincoln’s Promise” event at the Dayton VA Medical Center.
This event will focus on the creation of the Lincoln bronze statue to be placed next to the Putnam Library.
Presenters will include the Lincoln Society of Dayton, the American Veterans Heritage Center, and will feature a special presentation by artist Mike Major, sculptor of the upcoming bronze statue.
The event will be located next to the Putnam Library, under a large tent with ample seating.
The American Veterans Heritage Center, in partnership with the Lincoln Society of Dayton, are raising funds to erect a bronze statue of President Abraham Lincoln on the historic campus of the Dayton VA Medical Center.
The bronze statue will be designed by Urbana, Ohio artist, Mike Major. Major is an award-winning visual artist who has specialized in bronze monumental sculpture, drawing, painting and printmaking for more than 35 years. He has designed statues throughout Ohio and the United States, including the bronze Lincoln statue in front of the Dayton Courthouse
This bronze statue will honor “Lincoln’s Promise” to “Care for him who shall have borne the battle…” while signing legislation March 24, 1865 establishing Dayton as one of the first three National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.
This bronze statue will enhance the healing environment of the campus and add teaching and learning opportunities dedicated to Lincoln’s principles.
